Fairview, Vancouver

Central location with tree-lined streets and easy transit access

About Fairview

Fairview is a centrally located Vancouver neighbourhood stretching south from False Creek to roughly King Edward Avenue, between Cambie Street and Granville Street. The area is anchored by the South Granville shopping district and the Cambie Corridor, two of Vancouver's most established commercial streets, and offers a mature, residential character that balances urban convenience with relative quiet.

The neighbourhood divides naturally into two distinct areas. South Granville, along Granville Street between the Granville Bridge and 16th Avenue, is one of Vancouver's premier shopping streets, featuring upscale fashion boutiques, art galleries, antique dealers, and fine dining. The Cambie Corridor, running north-south along Cambie Street, has become a significant development hub since the Canada Line opened in 2009, with transit-oriented condo towers transforming the streetscape around stations.

Fairview also encompasses the slopes above False Creek, offering some of Vancouver's best views of the downtown skyline and North Shore mountains. City Hall, Vancouver General Hospital, and numerous medical offices give the area a professional, institutional character. Granville Island, while technically its own jurisdiction, sits at Fairview's northern edge and provides the neighbourhood with market shopping, artisan studios, and cultural programming.

For condo buyers, Fairview offers the appeal of central location without downtown intensity. The neighbourhood attracts medical professionals working at VGH, established professionals seeking a quieter alternative to Yaletown or Kitsilano, and families drawn by the area's excellent schools and parks. The Canada Line stations at Broadway-City Hall and King Edward have made Fairview one of Vancouver's most transit-accessible neighbourhoods, supporting both lifestyle and investment value.

Transportation & Getting Around

Fairview is exceptionally well served by the Canada Line, with stations at Broadway-City Hall and King Edward providing rapid transit to downtown, the airport, and Richmond. The future Broadway Subway (Millennium Line extension) will add a station at the Granville-Broadway interchange, creating a major transit hub. Frequent bus routes run along Broadway, Granville, and Cambie Streets. The False Creek seawall provides cycling connections, and the neighbourhood's grid layout is highly walkable. The Granville Bridge connects directly to downtown by vehicle.

Buyer Tips for Fairview

  • 1Canada Line station proximity is a major value driver - units within a 5-minute walk of stations command premiums
  • 2The Broadway Subway extension will further boost values near the future Granville-Broadway station
  • 3South Granville-facing units enjoy shopping access but verify noise levels from street and bridge traffic
  • 4Older low-rise apartments along West 7th and 8th Avenues offer more affordable entry points
  • 5View corridors toward False Creek and the mountains are protected by city policy - verify before assuming permanence
